I had a great 2018. It was a year filled with several positive life changes for me. At the start of the year, I discovered my love for makeup and with it, a great new community in the Youtube and Instagram world. I got engaged to my best friend and love of my life, Nick, on the Fourth Of July! We went on a crazy awesome vacation to Disney World – one of our favorite places – for nine days and we didn’t break the bank. Those are just some of the highlights, and in an effort to remember all of the amazing things that happened in 2018, I’m going to do what I always do and write them down.
I discovered the Instagram Makeup and Beauty community one day when I was looking for new hair inspiration. I am one who changes my hair with the seasons, I get super bored with it very easily and can be quite impulsive when it comes to changing my hair. As I was browsing through Pinterest for fun colored hair ideas, I stumbled upon Hailie Barber’s page. Hailie Barber is a beauty guru who specializes in makeup tutorials and skin care – seriously check her out if you haven’t – and, like me, changes her hair a lot. The colorful hair caught my eye and after exploring her instagram page and YouTube channel, I became a fan. With discovering Hailie Barber came discovering even more beauty gurus with unique takes on products and unique makeup tutorials. Once I discovered the beauty community, I was hooked. I became obsessed with watching tutorials and learning more tricks on how to make my makeup better. I had always loved makeup, but I didn’t know what I didn’t know and discovering the community opened up a new world for me and helped me discover one of my greatest passions.
In July, Nick and I got engaged! You can check out my post on how Nick proposed on the Fourth of July. We had been together almost five years at that point and we both knew that we wanted to be together forever. I was so excited when he proposed surrounded by some of our closest friends during the Fourth of July Fireworks. Since then, we have jumped right in to wedding planning! Wedding planning hasn’t become stressful yet – I’m sure that time is coming – but it has mostly been fun. We’ve had a blast exploring venues together, looking at photographers, and tasting different caterers. The only stressful part of the planning process that we’ve run into so far is money but we are very fortunate in that we still have plenty of time to pay for things. We decided that we didn’t want a super long engagement, we’d been together for five years, why wait any longer? But we also needed a long enough engagement that we could pay for the wedding without going into debt. I’m sure things will begin to get stressful as the wedding gets closer, but for now, we’re both having fun planning and dreaming of the future!
It is no secret to anyone that Nick and I are both obsessed with Disney World. As kids, we both went quite a lot, and as adults, we love it still. It still has the fun and magical feel for us and because we went a lot as kids, it brings back a lot of great memories and helps us feel like we’re kids again. I will also say that going to Disney as adults is very different than going as kids. We appreciate the detail and theming that Disney does so much more now. We enjoy trying the new and exotic restaurants in each area of the parks. In addition, we have the drive and energy to experience everything that we want. Getting tired doesn’t derail the whole day, we just have some coffee now. In September, we went to Disney World for nine days! We had seven straight days in the parks, a really great decision on our part. We could leisurely go through each park, stopping to experience the details and extra entertainment along the way. On previous trips when we went for four or five days, we felt rushed because we only got one day in each park. This time, we could relax and take it all in. It was also a very special trip for us because we had gotten engaged two months prior. Disney is so great about helping you celebrate special occasions and putting in the extra effort to make sure that your day is great. We were wearing buttons that said “Celebrating Our Engagement” around the parks everyday – Disney gives you buttons for every occasion. Cast Members would see our buttons and tell us “Congratulations”, Starbucks Cast Members always wrote “Congratulations” on our cups, and characters would even get excited for us and start up conversations about our engagement. One of the best experiences we had was when we went to dinner at The Yachtsman – a fancy steakhouse – to celebrate. They brought us special menus that said “Congratulations” on them and gave us a special free dessert. I could go on forever about how great our trip was, but celebrating being engaged in one of our favorite places in the world made it one of the best trips we’ve been on.
All in all, 2018 was a fantastic year. I’m sad that it came to an end, but I am so excited for what 2019 holds. In 2019, we are getting married! We also have an amazing honeymoon planned that I will share more about later. I am so excited for this upcoming year and I can’t wait to write all about it.
