There was a polar vortex in the midwest last week, which meant that I stayed inside for four straight days and had plenty of time to catch up on some Netflix. I had already had the chance to tackle some great shows in January, but I was super excited when I had a perfect excuse to knock out even more. I am definitely going to try to avoid it, but no promises that I won’t be spoiling some things, so if you want to watch any of the shows I’m about to review, proceed with caution.
Fuller House (Season 4) – I love Fuller House. It’s cheesy and funny and nostalgic in all the right ways and it makes me so happy. I loved Full House growing up and have been a die-hard fan of Fuller House since it premiered. I was so upset to learn that season 5 will be its last season – set to premier in late 2019. The fourth season was filled with funny moments and sad moments as the Fuller household developed new (old?) relationships, entered the teenage years, and prepared for a new baby. It was definitely a great season and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for something fun and lighthearted to watch.
Friends From College (Season 2) – I personally enjoyed season two of Friends From College more than season one. Season one was setting the stage, introducing us to the characters – all of whom are terrible people. Season two opens a year after the season one finale with everyone still reaping the consequences of their mistakes in season one. What I thoroughly enjoy about Friends From College is that even though the characters are VERY flawed, you want the best for them anyway. It really dives deep into each character in this specific group of friends and you watch them make mistakes, deal with the consequences, and grow as individuals. The humor in the show is dry and sarcastic which I also love. Definitely a great option if you’re looking for a show with plenty of humor and some serious depth as well.
Sex Education (Season 1) – I could go on and on about how great Sex Education is. I finished it in less than 36 hours, and that is saying something since it took the rest of the month to finish the other two shows combined. Sex Education was a refreshing and hilarious take on the adventures and mishaps of growing up and coming into your own – obviously, considering the title. While it definitely was full of funny situations involving sex – for sure an R-rated show, viewer discretion advised – it was also full of relationship struggles between friends, love interests, and parents. The acting was incredible, the soundtrack was great, and the writing was so clever and funny, it had me obsessively checking news outlets to see if it had been renewed for a season 2 – spoiler alert: it was! If you’re going to pick any of the above three to watch, this is the one you should choose. I can’t wait for the next season already to see where the characters go and to see what other hilarious storylines the writers come up with.
